Descrizione

Full day tour (about 4 hours, interspersed by lunch break) with a qualified and highly qualified guide selected by Discovery Matera, among those present in the area, which will give the opportunity to visit the city and the Murgia Park.
The tour starts from the "Plan" along the eighteenth-century axis, from the very popular Via del Corso to Via Ridola, passing through the main churches such as: San Francesco d'Assisi, the Church of Purgatory and the Church of Santa Chiara and then arrive at Piazzetta Pascoli, where it will be possible to admire Palazzo Lanfranchi, which saw the start of Giovanni Pascoli's career as a teacher; here there is a splendid Belvedere that offers one of the most suggestive and romantic views of the Sassi.
Through the main street, you enter the Sasso Caveoso, mainly carved into the rock, until you get to Piazza San Pietro Caveoso which, in addition to the church of the same name, offers a breathtaking view of the Murgia and Gravina. During this stop, you will be given the opportunity to visit the typical cave houses and the Rupestrian churches with valuable frescoes.
Shooting the bike continue along the main road until you reach the Sasso Barisano, also characterized by valuable rock complexes (Madonna delle Virtù, San Pietro Barisano) and then reach the rocky spur that laps the side of this ancient neighborhood and shows the imposing structure of the Church and of the adjoining Sant'Agostino Monastery.
Going up Via Santo Stefano you will admire the small church of San Biagio.
The last stop before lunch is scheduled in front of a small jewel of medieval architecture, the Church of San Giovani Battista, whose facade and interior reveal the charm of artistic influences of distant lands.
The tour resumes in the afternoon with the ascent of the "Civita", the highest point of the old city with the majestic Cathedral, recently restored and open to the public.
After visiting the Cathedral, continue in the direction of the Murgia Park (7 km from Matera), until you reach the Piazzale del Belvedere.
Thanks to its evocative view, he was the protagonist of international film shooting and location for photo shoots. The park is also known as the Park of the Rupestrian Churches because of the presence of ancient rock complexes inside it; the guide will offer his valuable contribution to making the most of all the facets of Matera.
A tour designed to understand the beauty of Matera that is not only Sassi but also nature and tradition.
